Potty Mouthed Princesses Dropping F-Bombs for Feminism? F*ck Yeah!
So, last night my good friend sent me this video that is driving everyone especially parents insane. It is a video created by FckH8.com, a for-profit company owned by Synergy Media--a corporate branding studio that specializes in marketing. FCKH8's last campaign had children from Ferguson, MO. read statistics on racism to "white people". A cut of that profit went to the Mike Brown Fund and the NAACP. Now, they're using girls from ages 6-13 to discuss gender inequality, rape, wage gap and many more issues that these girls will some day have to experience as women not only in America but THE WORLD.
Let's be honest, at first when the first f-bomb flew out of that adorable little girl's mouth, I cringed. Like I could not believe such a "big" word could come from such a small mouth. But then as she kept talking, I started to understand the message. A message that many people watching the video will not understand. We are more concerned about one particular word that we have labeled as a bad word than creating a better life for our little girls. Many people are saying that these girls do not even understand what they're saying but they will remember that a few adults allowed them to curse on video. But doesn't that say more about their parents, their surroundings and upbringing stressing the word fuck more than the fact that 1 out of 5 of them will some day get sexually assaulted just because they have a vagina? Because instead of telling our sons to keep their hands and penises to themselves we tell our daughters how to dress and how to behave properly and MAYBE they'll be okay?
For the next couple of weeks or even months, maybe they will remember that they did this campaign and they were allowed to use foul language but they will always have this video to remind them that they did this for a bigger purpose and exposed people to something they've been brushing under the rug for years.
People have considered me a "modern-feminist", which I'm not sure what that means exactly but I like it. I do know that now more than ever I have been more concerned about equality for all women especially for young colored girls which is why I have officially joined the HerAgenda team. (Visit HerAgenda here.) Things have gotten this bad only because we have allowed it to. Now it's time for a change. Are you with us?
“What’s more offensive: A little girl saying f***, or the sexist way society treats girls and women?”
Here's the video if you haven't seen it yet:
